Natrol production facilities receive highest NSF grade

Natrol NSF certificationThanks to the hard work of our Operations department staff who have been working relentlessly for over a year to meet new NSF (National Sanitation Foundation) audit standards, I’m proud to announce that Natrol has been awarded an “A.” NSF is the U.S. independent organization that’s authorized to audit a company’s manufacturing processes to be sure they comply with American National Standards for safety, quality, sustainability and/or performance. To receive their highest grade, is a big compliment.

NSF logoIn January 2019, NSA issued new, more expansive guidelines and a new grading system for dietary supplements production. Prior to then, NSF audits were issued as either “Pass” or “Fail” and the guidelines were less extensive. The registration process can be reviewed on the NSF website here.

Edcel LadoniaWe put Edcel Ladiona, our Associate Director of Quality Assurance and Quality Control, in charge of the effort. “Last year, we had 12 minor observations because NSF had just issued a new set of standards prior to our 2019 audit,” explained Ladiona. “As part of the new requirements we had to develop a food safety plan, a food defense plan, crisis management procedures, a management review of quality systems, among other things.”

Since the 2019 audit, Natrol’s Operations team has spent many months making the necessary changes to meet or exceed the new requirements. “This year we couldn’t be prouder of our operations team and leadership’s support of our goals. Our hard work paid off. We were only assessed one minor observation and awarded the highest grade—an ‘A’,” Ladonia touted proudly. “If NSF issued plus and minus grades, we would have been given an ‘A+’. The NSF auditor recognized the leadership support and praised the organization as a whole.”
